What is a Dedicated Server?
As the name suggests, it is a server with the predefined configuration or tailor made configuration specifically made for you and is kept at a datacenter. It has its own operating system and software to manage it. It is not shared with anyone, not even a single/small website.

A virtual private server is like a dedicated server with its own operating system and software. Its configuration can be tailor-made to a certain extent. The major difference is that a virtual private server has “virtual partitions” that allow a server’s resources (CPU, RAM, bandwidth, storage space, etc) to be divided amongst other websites hosted on that particular server.
When Should You Consider a Virtual Private Server or Dedicated Server for Your Business?

What kind of resource is required by me? Dedicated Server offers Dedicated Resources while Virtual Private server offers Shared Resources as it is a subset of Dedicated Server.
Level of dynamic usage and Sql Integration? This is a key point which is to be kept in mind that what is the level of dynamic in the application and the connection and queries of sql. The more the level of complex queries and more dynamic and integrated the application is, the technical specifications required are more. For example, a system like CRM, ERP, etc needs Dedicated Server as Virtual Private Server can’t be relied on.
Operating System installation? In Virtual Private Server operating system can be installed only from the list of choice given to the individual, while in Dedicated Server the operating system can be of the choice of individual.
